South Central Railway

The South-Central railway functions primarily in the states of Telangana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. It has its headquarters in Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. 

This railway zone came into existence on 2nd October 1966 by merging 2 divisions each from the southern and the central railway zone namely Hubli & Vijaywada and Solapur & Secunderabad respectively. 

On February 17th, 1978, the existing division of Hyderabad was created by splitting the division of Secunderabad. 

This was further reevaluated in 2019 when the divisions of Waltair Division, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal Vijaywada, Guntur, and Guntakal were reorganized to form the South Coast Railway zone. Currently speaking, the South-Central Railway now consists of 3 zones called Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Nanded. 

This zone consists of ample workshops, healthcare facilities, training institutes, sheds, and depots. Some of the popular trains in this zone include Garudadri Express, between Chennai Central and Tirupati, and Tirupati - Puducherry Weekly Express, between Tirupati and Puducherry

As per 2016-17, the South-Central Railway zone was leading in terms of punctuality, customer efficiency, and gross earnings. It runs a total of 744 trains per day including freight trains and passengers over its well-established rail network.

Not only that, it is ahead of almost all Indian railway zones as far as infrastructure and quality of service is concerned. There are LED lights installed in all 733 stations in this zone with its entire railway zone standing 2nd in terms of cleanliness, maintenance, and hygiene.
