North Western Railway

The north western railway comprises of largely 4 states: Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujrat. It consists of 4 divisions that is in Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, and Jodhpur. This railway line first came into being in 1882 when it was laid between Marwar junction and Pali, which was later extended to Luni in 1884, by the Rajputana railway. 

In 1924, the Jodhpur and Bikaner railways combination was split to perform as two independent fully functioning railway stations of the North Western railway. After independence, Jodhpur was further split as a junction and part of it went to West Pakistan. 

the Jodhpur-Bikaner line, in 1951, was further promoted to merge with the Western railway zone. The North Western railway zone as we know it today was conceived in 2002. 

It even has railway lines that cross the border into Pakistan transporting both people and essential commodities. Thar express, a non-stop international passenger train used to run between jodhpur in India and Karachi in Pakistan in 2006. 

Lately, in December 2017, the Indian railways installed the ‘Fog Pilot Assistance System’ for railway signaling in the 4 most affected railway zones namely Northern Railway zone, North Central Railway zone, North Eastern Railway zone and North Western Railway zone.

Some of the popular trains in the North Western railway zone include Marusagar Express, Marudhar Express, Palace Queen Humsafar Express, Udaipur City – Delhi Sarai Rohilla Rajasthan Humsafar Express. 

This zone also includes medical facilities at various levels including zonal hospitals, divisional hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, health units, and first aid posts.
