Northern Railway
The Northern Railway first came into existence in 1952 as a result of merging Jodhpur Railway, Bikaner Railway, Eastern Punjab Railway, and 3 more divisions of the East-Indian Railways.
This zone passes through a few states namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, its major stations being the ones in Lucknow, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, and Kalka.
The Northern Railway was the very first zone in all of the 18 Indian Railway Zones to have implemented the computerized passenger reservation system.
The Northern Railways ins working towards a clear, eco-friendly goal of establishing and maximizing the use of solar power for running its trains. This project is called the National Solar Mission and is all set to be launched in 4 major stations of the NCR namely: Anand Vihar, New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Hazrat Nizamuddin.
This solar project is yet to be refined in terms of design, implementation, and execution. But it continues to be an important aspect of the Northern Railway to look forward to.
Delhi Suburban Railway is one of the striking and exceptional features of the Northern Railway that runs between Ghaziabad and Faridabad and some other adjoining places in Haryana and Utter Pradesh.
Ladies Special Trains also commenced in 2009 between New Delhi and Palwal. 2 more trains are intending to be launched connecting cities between Ghaziabad and Panipat.
The Northern Railway also boasts of the Zonal Railway Training Institute (ZRTI) situated at Chandausi, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. This is also North India’s only railway training institute that works towards training group C employees like ticket checker, traffic inspector, station master, commercial inspector, driver, and guard.
