After taking a decision to minimise land acquisition in the IT corridor the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to acquire 78 properties from Baiyappanahalli to Mahadevpura in the first batch of acquisition.

The BMRCL has asked the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to start the process of acquiring land from Mahadevpura to Whitefield. The BMRCL estimates that 15 to 20 acres of land will be identified in the second batch of acquisitions.

It is said that the price for land in the IT corridor ranges between Rs2,000 to Rs4,000 per square foot . The BMRCL has constituted a committee to fix the compensation price for owners who will lose their properties to the Metro project.

An official of BMRCL said, “If one goes by the rules introduced by the central government on land compensation we need to pay double the guidance value. A committee has been formed to look into the matter and KIADB, which acquires land on behalf of BMRCL, will go by the committee’s recommendation.”

To build the first-ever Metro line into the IT corridor, it is estimated that the BMRCL will spend thousands of crores. The extension line between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield will have 14 stations on the 15.50 kilometer stretch. More info
