Railway minister directs Konkan Railway to provide better passenger amenities


MANGALURU: Konkan Railway stations will also have escalators like Mumbai sub-urban stations and other major stations on Indian Railways.

In this regard, union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu has directed BP Tayal, CMD, Konkan Railway while discussing the passenger amenities available on Konkan Railway stations. Prabhu has given direction that passenger amenities have to be upgraded at all stations of Konkan Railway.

Since the number of passengers has gone up, there is a need to widen platforms besides providing more benches for sitting as well as extending cover sheds on all platforms. The cover sheds are very important in Konkan region in view of very heavy rainfall and long monsoon period. The minister also emphasized the need to provide toilet facilities at all stations and instructed that Konkan Railway must ensure their cleanliness.

Tayal assured the minister that suitable action will be taken to upgrade passenger amenities at the stations within a short period. He also apprised that Konkan Railway has decided to provide bio-toilets at all stations and the work in this regard will be speeded up. More info
