RailTel broadband to connect 5 lakh households by 2018

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways’ RailWire broadband network services are expected to reach to 500,000 households by 2018, a senior RailTel Corporation official said.

State-run RailTel offers communications services and has telecom network alongside Indian rail route and covers optic fibre network at more than 4,400 railway stations with 44,300 kilometres of fibre already deployed.

“Railwire network will reach to 500,000 household in next two years proving a gamut of services. Its architecture will empower the people at village level with knowledge, skill development and core competencies. This will lead to good governance,” Pradeep Kumar, Executive Director (East) of Railtel Corporation said.
