Rail services for public up to Sri Lanka’s northernmost city begins

Kankasanthurai: After a lapse of 25 years, train service to Sri Lanka’s northernmost railway station commenced yesterday with the north bound Yal Devi train from Jaffna reaching the Kankasanthurai (KKS) station.

The train services between Colombo Fort  Kankasanthurai for public started Saturday from Fort.

The reconstructed Northern railway line from Jaffna to Kankasanthurai was commissioned Friday (02) under the patronage of Transport Minister Kumara Welgama.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, busy in campaign trail, did not attend the event as scheduled before.

Railways Superintendent L.A.R Rathnayake said that an intercity train will operate daily from Colombo Fort to Kankasanthurai. More info
