Rail officials take off for hometowns, hill station under garb of cleanliness drive

NEW DELHI: It seems cleanliness starts at home for railway officials. Asked to visit a station each on October 2 to launch PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, around 245 officials posted in Railway Board are headed to their hometowns or holiday destinations.

Around 60 have chosen stations in and around Delhi.

Following the PM’s directive, railways decided to launch a cleanliness drive at 7,700 stations spread across the country on October 2.

However, this has come as a godsend for officials in the festive season. Some will be travelling on public money to clean up stations in or near their hometowns with their extended family. Others, who want to mix business with pleasure, are heading towards tourist destinations and hill stations. Many officers are travelling to Khajuraho, Shimla, Solan, Kalka, Palampur, Kathgodam, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Udipi, Udaipur and Udhampur. More info
