Passengers stranded in Odisha’s southern districts

Thousands of passengers were stranded in railway stations and bus terminals after several south-bound long-distance trains were cancelled and buses kept off the roads in many of Odisha’s southern districts.

Indian Railways have cancelled, diverted and short-terminated trains originating and passing through East Coast Railway’s jurisdiction, according to ECoR.

Altogether, 79 trains which were to pass between Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam were cancelled from October 11 to 13 and several others diverted.

“The Visakhapatnam and Palasa railway sections have suffered heavy damage. At some places, overhead electrical lines were found sagging and signal poles uprooted,” said J.P. Mishra, Chief Public Relation Officer of ECoR, here on Sunday.

Late on Sunday, the ECoR announced that train operation between Bhubaneswar and Palasa would be resumed on Monday. Popular trains like Prasanthi Express between Bhubaneswar and Bangalore were being diverted via Jharsuguda. More info
