AGRA: Leaving no stone unturned to make the US President’s visit to India memorable, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has formally invited the Obamas to travel to Agra on the Maharajas’ Express.

The US first family’s invitation for the opulent ride, as described on its website, on board India’s most luxurious train — also a three-time winner of the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Train’ — has been sent to the ministry of external affairs for a final nod from US authorities.

Speaking to TOI, IRCTC joint general manager (public relations) Pradip Kundu said: “The invitation was sent to the US officials a week ago, but since we haven’t got a confirmation yet from the US officials.”

“The invitation has not been rejected,” he added. President Obama is expected to arrive in Agra on January 27, along with his family.

North central railway Agra division PRO Bhupinder Dhillion said: “So far, we haven’t received any notification from New Delhi with respect to the US president’s visit to Agra by train. But we are prepared to receive him, if he does come via train.”

If the US President accepts the invitation, he would be travelling in a $3,000/night presidential suite of the Maharaja’s Express train, owned and operated by the IRCTC. More info
