The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) on Friday said it achieved a major breakthrough by reaching an agreement with the Sultan Bazar traders to ensure the smooth progress of the project in that corridor.

HMRL said the company and the traders agreed to a special package during a meeting between both the sides at the Metro Rail Bhavan on Friday . As part of the agreement, HMRL managing director N V S Reddy said, the company will ensure that all road widenings will be restricted to the minimum space required.

The widening is to be restricted to 80 feet between Kacheguda Crossroads and Bata Junction (Badi Chowdi stretch), 65 feet between Bata Junction and Andhra Bank Junction (Sultan Bazar stretch), and 80 feet from Andhra Bank to Putlibowli Junction (Koti stretch). No religious or sensitive structures shall be disturbed, he added.

For the hawkers likely to get affected by the project, Reddy said that a stretch of about 250 metres will be devel oped as a `hawkers’ paradise’.Facilities will be provided for them under the Metro viaduct, including platforms and storage facilities, and a five-foot cobblestone pathway for shoppers. There is also a future proposal to convert it into a night bazar. More info
