KOCHI: As the quarry strike continues, the ongoing concreting work of the Kochi Metro Rail came to a grinding halt on Friday. According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) authorities, the situation will adversely affect the completion of the Metro project.

All the concrete transit mixer vehicles are idling at the casting yard at HMT, Kalamassery.

Also, the contractor of the first two ‘reaches’ of the project, L&T, has been forced to stop work completely, due to shortage of raw materials. The Metro Rail project requires an average of 400 metric tonnes of granite every day.

Though the contractors tried to bring in granite from quarries in other places, they were forced to quit the efforts following stiff opposition from the striking quarry owners. More info
