KOCHI: Allaying fears over the delay in the progress of the construction of the Kochi Metro Rail, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said that the project would be completed in a time-bound manner.

His assurance came a day after Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) principal advisor E Sreedharan triggered a controversy by saying that the Kochi Metro Rail route needed to be truncated to Palarivattom, due delay in land acquisition.

The Chief Minister said that a meeting would be held on January 6 to assess the progress of the works done so far. “At present, there are no hurdles in acquiring land for the project. The Metro Rail work, going by its current status, is progressing at a satisfactory pace, and there are no issues at all,” the Chief Minister said.

Responding to the charges levelled by Sreedharan against the KMRL over the ‘inordinate delay’ in handing over land to the DMRC, Oommen Chandy said that the comment was just a ploy by Sreedharan to speed-up the ongoing work so that it could be commissioned well within the deadline. More info
