BHUBANESWAR: The Union coal secretary Anil Swarup on Monday said the Centre is pushing for completion of the 52-km long Jharsuguda-Barpali (Sundargarh) rail link in Ib valley region of Odisha by December 2017.

“The Centre attaches much importance on this rail link because it would expedite coal transport in interior areas. Work on two other similar rail projects are presently going on in Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh.

The three projects, once completed, would form a corridor interlinking coal transport from one place to another. The three projects will have a total capacity to transport nearly 200 million tons of coal,” Swarup, who reviewed status of different coal projects of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. (MCL) with chief secretary G C Pati, told media persons here. More info
