Indian Railways: 5 new initiatives by the authority

Indian Railway Authority is set on a spree to bring new innovations to its passengers and make their journey more comfortable and experience, reliable!

Here are the 5 initiatives taken and to be taken by the Indian Railways that promise a ‘happy journey’ to its travellers:

1. Book your ticket online, pay cash on delivery (CoD):

Initiating this ‘cash on delivery’ system on rail ticketing on February 2, 2015, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made it easy for the customers who are reluctant to use their credit or debit cards as well as those who don’t have net-banking facility.

As per the reports, this scheme has been launched on pilot basis and the service will be available in more than 200 cities initially. Customers can book a ticket 5 days prior to commencement of journey and can get it delivered at home where the payment can be made.

2. Ready-to-eat food from McDonalds, Nirulas in Indian Railways soon

Indian Railways in the month of January 2015 issued policy guidelines permitting ‘ready-to-eat’ meals from branded firms like Haldirams, McDonalds and Nirulas as an add-on option in all mail and express trains that provide for pantry car service.

These ready-to-eat meals will include pre-cooked and frozen food packaged to provide for shelf life of not less than three months. More info
