The agreements will link Bangladesh to the rail networks of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka and pave the way for establishment of SAARC power grid.

The approval was given at the weekly Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The agreements are ‘SAARC Regional Railways Agreement for SAARC Member States’ and ‘SAARC Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation (Electricity)’.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters that the proposals were approved so that the two agreements can be signed during the 18th SARRC Summit to be held Nepal’s capital Katmandu on November 26-27. More info
