Google Trends: E-commerce sites most searched key words in India

This year’s Google Trends report released on Tuesday has identified online commerce websites as the most searched key words in India.

Websites like IRCTC, Flipkart and SBI Online were among the three most searched words on the internet search engine in 2014. Snapdeal, HDFC netbanking and OLX also figured in the top 10 searches on Google, the company said.

Actor Sunny Leone pipped Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the top spot in the most searched personalities.  Though Modi came second, this was the first time a politician has gained more search popularity than entertainment celebrities, Google said. Modi was ahead of celebrities Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Shahrukh Khan and cricketer Virat Kohli.

Among the top trending subjects were the Election 2014 and FIFA 2014. Rajan Anandan, MD, Google India, said: “The 2014 Lok Sabha elections pointed to the power of digital media and also to the unprecedented demand for information. These elections were fought as much on India’s dusty plains as it was on digital platforms, including social media such as Google Hangouts and YouTube.” More info
