In the first phase, only MEMU trains will be operated between Kozhikode and Shoranur, while passenger, express and super-fast trains will be electrified only after the completion of electrification of the Shoranur-Mangalapuram stretch.

As the work of the modification of the over-bridge across the track in Kozhikode is over and the ongoing modification of track electrification work in the Shoranur-Mangalore section is nearing completion, the railway authorities say the commissioning could be done by March.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mohan A Menon says the ongoing modification works between Kozhikode and Shoranur, which are now in progress at the Kozhikode railway station, will be completed by February 2015.

“Once the electrification works are completed, the tracks can be commissioned after getting the approval of the Railway Safety Wing, which will probably take one month,” Mohan adds.

The work will start only after the traction substations for supply of power are constructed at Tirur and Elathur. More info
