KOLKATA: There is no deed, nor an agreement, yet Saradha Group was roped in as a travel agent by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.

IRCTC, a subsidiary of Indian Railways, does not have documents to track how Saradha Group was engaged for tours conducted by it.

IRCTC officials on Thursday claimed that there was no clear reason why Sudipta Sen had been making payments to IRCTC over a period of around two years. Three officials of the railway subsidiary were summoned by ED at its CGO complex office in Salt Lake. The officials claimed that there was no copy of any deal signed with the Saradha Group.

The controversial agreement over Saradha-IRCTC deal was reportedly signed in 2010. According to sources, the deal was done when chief minister Mamata Banerjee was the railway minister. Sudipta’s accounts showed that he had been making payments to IRCTC over a period of two years.

“The IRCTC officials were clueless about any probable reason for the payments,” said an ED official. More info
