Delhi Metro’s fourth phase on track

Close to 26 lakh people take the Delhi Metro every day. The popularity of the rail network, without which life in the Capital is unimaginable for many now, has resulted in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) expanding its massive network. Work on Metro’s phase III is currently underway in full swing.

Now, the 190-km long Metro network, with 140 km under its third phase, is planning its next ambitious phase. After the completion of the third phase, the total length would be 330 km with 40 lakh footfall expected daily.

A Detail Project Report (DPR) for phase IV has been prepared and submitted to Delhi government and the Union Urban Development Ministry for approval. Subject to clearance, the Delhi Metro plans to commence work on phase IV even By Rakesh Ranjan in New Delhi before work on phase III is completed. Phase III of the Metro network is scheduled to be completed in 2016, while the DMRC plans to start work on phase IV by mid-2015.

Metro officials hope the project report would get a final nod by December. The latest proposed phase is scheduled to be completed by 2021. More info
