Delhi Metro Ph III delays: Mangu Singh takes stock

NEW DELHI: Almost three years after the former director (works), Mangu Singh, took over as head of Delhi Metro from E Sreedharan, the veteran engineer is facing his biggest challenge yet: construction of Phase III.

Delayed acquisition of land as well as getting clearances from different agencies has taken its toll. Deadlines announced by Singh for parts of Phase III have been missed.

The latest is the ITO station, which had an internal deadline of October 2014 which has now been pushed to January 2015. That alarm bells are ringing was apparent on Wednesday when Singh went for a sudden inspection of the ITO station. He asked his engineers to expedite the work and ensure that train trials start from December this year.

The ITO station is not the first deadline missed by Delhi Metro in Phase III. The opening of the Mandi House station was pushed from March to June 2014.
