NAGPUR: Gondia District Consumer Redressal Forum has imposed a penalty of Rs20,000 and a cost of Rs10,000 on Central Railway for deficiency in providing services as per its Citizens’ Charter.

Lawyer Sudhir Rathod lodged a complaint as railways failed to provide basic facilities like water, light and even the train ticket examiner (TTE), in his compartment in Chhattisgarh Express.

Rathod had boarded the train from Habibganj station in Bhopal on November 3, 2011, at 7.45pm with confirmed reservation in S-11 coach. He discovered the coach lacked the basic amenities. He and his co-passengers who had boarded the train from earlier stations complained about the same. After the train reached Itarsi, he orally complained to the local TTE, who assured that water would be filled and lights repaired at Nagpur. More info
