Bangladesh Railway to add 150 steel coaches to its fleet in three years


It entered into agreements with an Indonesian company at Rail Bhaban on Thursday to procure 100 metre-gauge coaches and 50 broad-gauge coaches with ADB funding.

1The metre-gauge coaches will cost Tk 3.45 billion and broad-gauge coaches be 2.17 billion.

During the signing, Railways Minister Mazibul Hoque said, procurement of new coaches would solve the crisis of bogies.

Director General of Bangladesh Railway Tofazzal Hossain and President Director of the Indonesia’s PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) R Agus H Purnomo were the signatories to the agreement on the procurement of 100 metre-gauge coaches.

Additional Director General Khalilur Rahman and Purnomo signed the deal for the purchase of 50 broad-gauge coaches.

“Rail has been neglected so far. But now 41 projects are being implemented for the development of railways,” Minister Hoque said. More info
