Alstom begins manufacture of rail coaches for India’s Kochi Metro

Alstom Transport has unveiled the first ‘Made in India’ car-body shell for Kochi Metro, marking the start of production of rail coaches at its manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, India.

As part of a contract awarded in 2014, Alstom is scheduled to supply 25 Metropolis train sets to serve on the 25.6km-long Kochi network. The contract comes with an option to supply 25 additional metro sets.

Expected to deliver the initial train sets in early 2016, Alstom will design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission the 25 standard track gauge trains. More info
